Mr. Xavier Jones of Tarboro, N.C. entered into eternal rest on June 17,2023.
Xavier Elias Jones, age 16, transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest on Saturday, June 17th, 2023, at Maynard Children’s Hospital, Greenville, NC. Xavier was born in Onslow County on March 12th, 2007, to Quincy Andre Jones and Shermonica Renea Richardson.
Xavier was a member of Gateway to Heaven Church, Princeville, NC under the leadership of Bishop Stairlon Gregory (Elder Barbara Gregory). He was a faithful member of the youth choir. Two of his favorite songs he led were “Brand new me” and “I’m a Witness.”
Xavier was graced to be such a wonderful beacon of light. He illuminated every atmosphere he walked into. He truly exemplified Mathew 5:16 where it states “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Despite of life’s challenges and difficulties, Xavier never had a complaint in his vocabulary. He kept a positive attitude even while going through health issues at such a young age. His radiant smile had the power to encourage anyone’s heart.
Xavier was a rising 11th grader at Tarboro High School. Xavier’s positive spirit and likable personality made a long lasting impression upon his fellow school mates and teachers.
Xavier was also known for his energetic, strong and talented athletic ability. He had a love and passion for football. His extensive history in football included playing for The South Edgecombe Dragons, The Cougar Cubs, AAU and The Tarboro High Vikings.
He was a strong leader on and off the field. Xavier truly had the power of influence. So many looked up to his honorable character and he gained a great deal of respect from his peers and those he knew in the community.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Howard Brown, three great-grandmothers, Bettie Bell Hines, Annie Lee Cheeks Edwards and Violet Richardson, three great-grandfathers, Joseph Hines, Clarence Edwards Sr. and Wilbert Richardson.
