Willie Lee Collins, Jr.

Mr. Willie Collins of Pantego, N.C. entered into eternal rest on October 8, 2023. 
 

Willie Lee Collins Jr., affectionally known as “Willie Lee”, was called to his heavenly home late Saturday night October 8, 2023, at his home in Pantego, N.C. surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 11, 1937, to the late Pecola Collins (Willie Lee Collins, Sr.) and George Henry Whitney.

Willie Lee attended Beaufort County Schools. He was a farmer at an early age, where he worked at Benson Farms. He later began to work for the Beaufort County School System as a head custodian at Pantego High School for many years until he retired.

He was united in holy matrimony to Queen Winfield Collins on May 27, 1961. Their union was blessed with 2 children. They were married for 59 years.

Willie Lee gave his life to Christ at an early age, under the Christian influence of his wife and parents. He joined Antioch Disciples of Christ where he served on the Trustee Board. Willie Lee loved to sing, so he joined the choir alongside his mother and sisters. Also, he loved to travel along with the choir with his girls (Mossy, Tunk, Van, Doris, Suga, and Pat) whenever he could. “Roaddogg” is what his sisters would call him because he was always ready to hit the road.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Queen W. Collins; parents, Pecola Collins, Willie Lee Collins Sr., and George Henry Whitney; one daughter, Baby Collins; and one sister, Judy Jennette.

Those left to cherish his memories: daughters, Barbara Turner (Jerome) of the home and Doretha Ross (Darnell Sr.) of Washington, NC; one son, Shawn Lee Collins of Winterville, NC; six grandchildren, Whitney Collins in which he raised as his daughter, Tyler Turner, Quiana Ross, Darnell Ross Jr., Kierra Ross, and Hollie Edwards; eight great grandchildren; five sisters, Katie Lankford of Leechville, NC, Addie Wynn of Suffolk, VA, Theresa Gay of Farmville, NC, Rosemary Phillips of Chesapeake, VA, and  Jane Wilson of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers Daniel Collins of Raleigh, NC and Carol Collins of Washington, NC; two aunts, Mary Joyce Swain of Washington, NC and Clara Mae McCoy of Fairfield, NC; one uncle, William Lindbergh Whitney of Greensboro, NC; Special nieces and nephews, Isabel Bryant, Evelyn Jennette, Phyllis Brimmage, Mary Jennette, Daniel Collins, David Collins, James Taylor, Henry Taylor, Alvin Jeannette and Kenneth Winfield; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
