William Moore Obituary

Mr. William “Bill” Henry Moore Jr. of Kinston, N.C. entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2023.

“But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

William Henry “Bill” Moore, Jr. was born on September 17, 1939, to the union of Elsie Irene Spaulding and William Henry Moore, Sr. in Kinston, North Carolina. “Bill,” as he was known, was the youngest of four sons.

“Bill” was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: William H. Moore, Franklin McIver Moore and Major Alexander Moore.

“Bill” received his formal education in the Kinston City Public Schools and graduated from Adkin High School in 1956 and matriculated to North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, where he received his B.S. Degree in Biology. He continued his education at NCCU’s School of Law for one year.

On January 13, 1968, “Bill” was blessed in holy matrimony to Alice Zeporia Brown after they met in college. Their union produced two children – Billy (William Henry Moore III) and Brent DeLynn Moore. This union was blessed with Bill’s eldest son, Alton Ray Moore, who has been a blessing to his father and family during his father’s lengthy illness.

“Bill’s” demise was just 9 days shy of being married for 55 years!!! “Bill” and Alice have been together for a total of 65 years!! To God be the glory!!!! Their faithfulness to God and each other is an inspiration for us all.

“Bill” submitted his life to Jesus Christ at an early age and joined St. Augustus AME Zion Church where he served on the Steward Board and as a Sunday School Teacher. He was ordained as a Minister and did his trial sermon through Alpha & Omega Church in the eighties. In 1985, he was chosen by St. Augustus AME Zion Church as “Man of the Year.”During his active membership, he was presented with a plaque for his philanthropic efforts in the church.

After marriage, “Bill” worked in many capacities. He and his family made their home in Goldsboro, NC, where he worked for the North Carolina Fund Mobility Program in Durham, NC. He was responsible for relocating underserved persons in Eastern North Carolina to the more industrialized Western areas to improve the economic status for those persons. In March of 1969, he was employed by the Goldsboro Redevelopment Commission as a Social Service Coordinator and was later promoted to the Deputy Director of that same agency. During his tenure, he was saluted on WNCT-TV as “Today’s Outstanding North Carolina Citizen.”

“Bill” later resigned his position and returned home to help his mother with the family business after the death of his father. He served as CEO/Realtor with Moore Realty Co. in Kinston.
