Vernas Wiggins Selby

Mrs. Vernas Wiggins Selby, 69, affectionally known as "Vanessa" and/or "Mookie" of Fairfield, NC, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 in Greenville, NC.

Vernas Wiggins Selby, known by her family and friends as “Vanessa” or “Mookie” was born March 22,1955 to the union of Betty and Willie Davis in Belhaven North Carolina.

Vernas received her formal education at O. A. Peay School in Swan Quarter N.C.

She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Zion Temple Baptist Church and was later united with Jobes Chapel Baptist Church where she served on the kitchen committee. 

Vernas was united in holy matrimony to Maxwell Selby in December of 2000 in Belhaven N.C.

She was employed by Pungo District and Ridgewood Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Vernas was also employed as a cook for over 27 years at Cross Creek Health until her retirement.

In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking, crabbing, fishing,and watching the soap opera,  “The Days of Our Lives”. 

Vernas departed this life on Friday, March 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Davis;mother, Betty Davis; son, Marshall Holloway; daughter, Barbara Wiggins; and brother, Alonzo Russell.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her spouse, Maxwell Selby; children, Betty Moore, James Wiggins, and Temica Wiggins; grandchildren, Shakiar McCabe, Jasmine Fields, Erica Johnson, Shawn Washington Jr., and Kadjha Rome; one brother, Willie Davis; one aunt,Slyvia Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
