Ms. Shonda Hubbard of Greenville, N.C. entered into eternal rest on August 21, 2022.
Shonda Lynn Hubbard was born on December 8, 1959, in Richmond, VA and was the youngest daughter of four girls born to Edna Snead Hubbard. When she was still a toddler, she came to Greenville to live with her grandmother. Shonda was always a bright inquisitive Child. She always had another question for every answer she was given and knew the answer to random things most people wouldn’t have known.
She attended South Greenville Elementary, Greenville Middle, and JH Rose high school. Shonda was an exemplary student all through school. She served as a Marshal for the class of 1977 and graduated in the top of her class in 1978. Shonda graduated at a time when minorities were recruited by formally white colleges, and she received scholarships and special offers from college’s all over the country. Included in these was a congressional nomination to the Air Force Academy in Denver Colorado. Shonda chose to attend East Carolina University to study nursing. Although she did not complete those studies, she became and remain gainfully employed as a CNA and later as a unit secretary for PCMH later known as Vidant health for over 25 years until her health began to fail.
Some of her favorite things were Tigers, collecting rosters, hens, collectible dolls, and Christmas village houses. She loved to read, watch old movies, playing cards and board games. Shonda never had children but was a doting Aunt to her nieces and nephews and loving Dog mom to Onyx and Bear.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Malissa Pettus Snead (who mostly raise her), her mother Edna S. Hubbard, sisters Lottie H. Dixon and Rosemary H. Whitehurst. Left to remember her fondly is one sister Sylvia S. Teele of Greenville, NC two brothers Leroy Hubbard (Angela) and Joseph Briggs (Theresa) both of Greenville, NC, Special friend Dollie Lucus of Greenville, NC and a host of nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.
