Ms. Sarah Lee Flowers of Washington, N.C. entered into eternal on November 8, 2023.
Sarah Lee (Blount) Flowers was born September 21st, 1939, in Hyde County, North Carolina to the late Dennis and Rosa Elsie Blount. Sarah was preceded in death by her Husband of 53 years Thomas H. Flowers.
In 1944, the family moved from Hyde County to Washington, North Carolina. In 1950 Sarah moved to Brooklyn, NY. She received her education from both the North Carolina and New York Public School System. Sarah was affectionately called “Sack” by her loving siblings.
In 1958 Sarah wed the love of her life, Thomas (Tank) Flowers. While building their life Sarah found employment in the cleaning industry, working for various companies such as Cascade Laundry Service, Buy Buy, M &M, and Betty Bright Dry Cleaners, and ultimately working in Washington for Robinson Cleaners until her retirement.
Sarah was a unique woman with a strong character. She “said what she meant and she meant what she said.” She had a way of giving you that “look” and you knew she meant business. She was a pillar of strength to those who knew and loved her. Sarah had a deep love for her family, she had a special and different relationship with each of them. She always provided that safe place for her family, full of wisdom . You could talk to her about anything. She was a confidant to many, always encouraging you to do your best to press forward and to expect the best no matter the situation.
After retiring, Sarah and Tommy returned back to Washington, North Carolina there she became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and was committed to serving in God’s Kingdom. She took great pride in serving. She was part of the Kitchen Committee, the Communion Ministry, and she served faithfully on the Usher Board. She was passionate about “Her” Usher Board, where she at one time served as Secretary and Treasurer.
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023 Sarah entered into eternal peace from labor to reward. Our hearts were broken, but she now rest in the “Arms of our Heavenly Father.”
She leaves to cherish her memory one brother Redmon Blount of North Carolina, three sisters, Mary of New York, Eunice (Johnnie) of North Carolina, and Doris (Maceo) of Ohio. One Sister-in-law Edith of New Jersey, two step-sisters and one step-brother. The children she raised, Walter (Bro. Flowers) and Mabel (Blount) Reddick who both preceded her in death, Audrey (Blount) Vaughan of New York, Dennis Cyron Blount (Sonia) of New Jersey and Wanda Blount of North Carolina, nine grandchildren, along with a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives, godchildren Antoine Telfair, and Monique Kenlaw, Church family, friends, and a special neighbor Brenda McKinney
