Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) Kenneth Wendell Peartree, 64, of Palm Coast, FL formerly of Pantego, NC passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Deland, FL.

Kenneth Wendell Peartree, also known as Kenny, was born in Washington, North Carolina on February 1, 1960, to the late Samuel Peartree, Jr. and Carlene Edwards Peartree. On August 31, 2024, the sun set for Kenny. He was at Advent Health Hospital, Deland, Florida when God called him home. He is preceded in death by his father, two brothers James Rogers Peartree and Lewis Hogan, and sister, Norma Jean Bunch.

At an early age, Kenny joined Queen Chapel Disciples of Christ Church of the Terra Ceia Community, where he grew up. After graduating from Pantego High School, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served 24 years and achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt). He earned an associate’s degree in Logistics Management from Community College of the Air Force and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Colorado Technical University. Kenny loved traveling, fishing, photography, and anything Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his favorite sports team.

At his last duty station, SMSgt Peartree was the Fuels Superintendent, Fuels Management for Flight 6th Logistics Readiness Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. He was responsible for the management of over 12 million gallons of aviation fuel used each year at MacDill. As the leader of over 50 members, SMSgt Peartree managed equipment valued at more than three million dollars, in support of over 3,000 aircrafts fuel serving each year, thus, sustaining the vital base mission.

SMSgt Peartree’s assignments included tours at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho; Zaragoza Air Force Base, Spain; Loring Air Force Base, Maine; Clark Air Base, Philippines; Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England and Osan Air Force Base, Republic of South Korea. He did second tours at Air Force Base Royal, Mildenhall, England; Osan, Republic of South Korea and at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. Altogether, SMSgt Peartree worked on assignments in 26 countries on 5 continents.

SMSgt Peartree’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters (an oak leaf cluster represents how many times that he received that medal), Joint Service Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Meritorious Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Ribbon, (long with one oak leaf cluster), Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with five oak leaf clusters, USAF Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon and the NATO Medal.

Kenny leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Tonya Stewart (Nathan) of Grimes, Iowa and 5 grandsons; his mother, Minister/Mother Carlene Peartree of Clayton, NC; two Sisters, Dr. Annette Peartree-Mandley (Minister/Dr. James) of Clayton and Leslie Diane Peartree-Gray (William) of Douglasville, GA; two brothers, Ronnie Edwards (Pamela) also of Clayton and Randy Linton of New York; three aunts, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kenny’s passing marks the end of a remarkable journey. His unwavering kindness, service to others, and dedication to family will be deeply missed. “…So let the bugle blow, fire the evening gun, and slowly lower the flag,” Kenny’s transformation has begun.
