Reverend Dr. Vandella Alston of Greenville, N.C. entered into enteral rest on October 13, 2022.
Rev. Dr. Vandella M. Alston was born on December 15, 1929, to the late Aaron and Charlotte B. May in Washington, NC.
Rev. Dr. Vandella M. Alston received her formal education at Beaufort County High School in Pantego, NC, Fayetteville State Teachers College in Fayetteville, NC, Elizabeth City College, Elizabeth City, NC with a B.S. in Education in 1959 and Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY with a Master’s Degree in 1972.
Rev. Dr. Vandella M. Alston accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and united with St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully.
Ms. Vandella May was united in holy matrimony Alfred C. Alston, Jr. and to this union they were blessed with three children.
Rev. Dr. Vandella M. Alston was employed with Pitt County School as an Elementary School Teacher for 5th and 6th grade for over 44 years.
In her leisure she enjoyed reading.

1959 Received Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City

1972 Received Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Brooklyn College,
Brooklyn, New York.
1973 Received Teaching certification for the University of the State of New York.
1981 Received Certificate of completion from Bible Correspondence Course by Church of
Christ, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
1983 Certificate of Recognition in Recognition of Devoted Service presented by
Dr. Howard Parker, Sycamore Hill Baptist Church.
1988 Graduated from Tabernacle Bible Institute
1991 Received Certificate of Service Award for 30 years of service as a certified teacher in
Pitt County Schools.
1992 2006 Received Certificate of Appreciation for Volunteer Services from North
Carolina Department of Correction.
1994 Licensed and ordained by Tabernacle Bible Institute.
1995 Started volunteer services at Tar River Manor Nursing Home and
continued until 2001.
1995 2006 Began and continued volunteer ministerial services for young women at Pitt
County Detention Center in Greenville, N.C.
1995 Received Certificate for Outstanding Service Rendered in Home Mission Class by
Bishop A.H. Hartsfield at Greenville Christian College.
1995 2006 Have continued missionary work in Haiti. Many lives have been changed and
souls saved because of my missionary work in Haiti.
1997 Received a certificate from Bishop Gorges Joseph confirming me as an official
representative of the Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Conference.
1999 2006 Mentor with the J.H. Rose High School Ladies of Distinction Club.
2002 Founded the annual Vernetta Gladys Alston Academic Scholarship Fund
which was conceived at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Washington, N.C. in
honor of my daughter providing college assistance for youth.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Alfred C. Alston, Jr. and two daughters: Vernetta G. Alston and Gloria D. Alston. One Sister; Lottie Windley and Two brothers; James Breakers and Jobie May.
She leaves to cherish her memory; one son; Alfred C. Alston, III of the home. Two Grandsons, Van Alston of Newark, NJ and Albert Alston of Los Angeles, CA. Six great children; Natalia Alston, Dante Alston, Tyrique Alston, Lillie Alston, Maya Alston, and Mariah Alston. One sister; Gladys William of Charlotte, NC and One brother, Jack (Ernestine) May, of Washington, NC.
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will all miss her dearly.
