Mr. Quincy McCrae Cherry, 48, affectionally known as (King " Q"), of Hobgood, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Tarboro, NC surrounded by his loving family.
The Legacy of King “Q”
Quincy McCrae Cherry affectionally known as, King “Q” was born on December 22, 1975, to Joe Harrison and Teresa Cherry in Tarboro, NC. He transitioned from this earthly life on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, NC.
Quincy was known to family, friends, and everyone in his community as “Q-Dog, Unc Q, Dog Lee, King”Q” and the East Tarboro Legend.” Quincy attended Edgecombe County Public Schools and was a “1995” graduate of Tarboro High School where he also played football and wore the #43 jersey. After completing some college courses, Quincy joined the workforce and was employed by Walmart until his untimely passing. With a more promising future Quincy was looking forward to starting a new job on May 20, 2024, at LS Cable. All while being employed by other companies, Quincy decided to embark on the journey of entrepreneurship and took the “leap of faith” and started his own business “QMC Empire”. Being self-employed was driven by the love he had for his children and the impact he made in his community to his family, friends, and church family.
Quincy accepted Christ at an early age and later rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of Salvation and Deliverance Church in Tarboro, NC under the leadership of Overseer Theodore Herring.
Quincy’s passing leaves a hole in the heart of his loved ones, but his memory will live on in the minds and hearts of those who know him. He will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and the dedication to all he came in contact with. Quincy brought joy and touch lives from all walks of life leaving behind the legacy of love. He was well known for his annual Valentine’s Baskets, Easter Egg Hunts, Back to School Bashes, Halloween Festivities, party supplies, equipment rental and let us not forget his “cooking”. His godson, Quan’Mari absolutely loved his famous pork chops. For those that really knew him, knows that he absolutely loved his favorite football team, the “San Franciso 49ers”.
Growing up Quincy was a part of “The Juice Crew”. They became friends during their kinderggarten and first grade year. Quincy was the “glue” that always kept them together. He would always find something for everyone to do and as they became adults, he would contact everyone to inform them of events that would bring everyone together again as a whole. Quincy has a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He had respect for others and if he wasn’t able to physically do what was needed, he always made a way out of no way! Quincy knew no strangers and he was loved by so many, and he definitely loved everyone. However, the most recognition was the love, affection, and loyalty he had for his wife, Mary.
Quincy met his soulmate, Mary that he always affectionally called “BabyGal” in 1994. They shared a special bond that resulted in a union of becoming one in marriage in 2007. They were married for almost 17 years and shared a total of 30 years of love together. Quincy took pride in putting his family first and although he was known as a “Momma’s Boy” and being his mother, Teresa’s only son, he still honored his role as a great husband, father, grandfather, and godfather. But more than anything, Quincy cherished being “Papa” to his only grandchild, K’Lani, better known as “Papa Baby”.
Quincy was preceded in death by his grandmother, Anna B. Cherry; his grandmother-in-love, Lou Edna Barnes; stepfather, Nicholas Davis; godfather, Harvey Harris; cousin & godson, Te’naji Cherry; stepbrother, Jarvis Barnes; and his best friend, Carlton Spivey.
