Perry Lyons, III

Mr. Perry Lyons III of Tarboro, N.C. entered into eternal rest on February 15,2023.

Perry Lyons, III, affectionately known as “Lil Boy”, was born on February 5, 1962 to Perry and Bernice Lyons in Whitakers, North Carolina. Perry received his formal education from Edgecombe County Public Schools and was a proud graduate of North Edgecombe High School in Leggett, NC.

Like many others raised in rural Edgecombe County, Perry started work by laboring on the farm.  After graduating from high school, Lil Boy entered the textile industry and worked for Dixie Yarns of Tarboro, NC for 25 years.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family, especially his grandkids.

Perry departed this life on February 15, 2023. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Earl Lyons (Bootman), a daughter, Shaquanda “Redd” Lyons, his best friend, Edward “Bone” Bullock, and the love of his life, Gwendolyn Garrett. 

He leaves to cherish his memory:

Children: Lutoya Battle of Clayton, NC; Gwynise Lyons Forte (Jay) of Rocky Mount, NC; and sons Shannon (Latoya) Garrett and Nekia (Cassandra) Garrett that he raised and loved as his own.

Grandchildren: Ny-Asia Battle, Kieren Battle, Jah’Kihilyia Lyons, ZaNiyah Christopher, Journee Dew, Nova Forte, Jireh Forte, Gianna Forte, Shameer Garrett, Shamari Garett

Parents: Perry Lyons Jr. and Bernice Lyons

Sisters and Brothers:  Ronald Tillery of Battleboro, NC, Catherine Lyons, Julius Lyons, and Douglas (LaCreashoa)) of Tarboro, NC Gertrude Lyons-Newkirk (Daniel) of Raleigh, NC, Beatrice Lyons-Westry of Rocky Mount, NC and Jessica Lyons of Battleboro, NC.

Other Family:

Perry also leaves to cherish his memory two aunts, Edna Burston of Raleigh, NC and Frances Hawkins of Maryland and two uncles, Bobby Sawyer and Willie Little both of High Point, NC, a goddaughter, Teyawnda Bullock of Tarboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
