Mary “Mae Bell” Louis Barrett was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born to the late Junior Patrick Barrett and Helen Ruth Joyner Barrett on June 8, 1954, in Bell Arthur, North Carolina.
Mary Louis departed this life on December 14, 2020, at home surrounded by her family.
Mary Louis was preceded in death by: her parents, Junior Patrick and Helen Barrett; three brothers: Mr. Donald “Donnie” Joyner, Mr. Geary Barrett and Mr. Willie Tyson; two sisters, Mrs. Brenda Faye Brock and Linda “Len” Lee Moye; and one brother-in-law, Mr. James “Boo-Boo” Moye.
Mary Louis attended Pitt County Schools. She was employed by the Pitt County Schools System as a cook for a length of time. “Mae Bell” loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family. She is known best for her cheese biscuits and flap jacks, just to name a few. In her leisure time, she enjoyed puzzles and playing Bingo.
“Mae Bell” received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at the early age of sixteen at Bibleway Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Alfred Dixon.
Mary Louis leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Frankie Ladonna Barrett of Greenville, NC, and one son, TellySakar Javon Barrett (Latongia) of Farmville, NC. “Mae Bell” was a passionate and devoted grandmother to her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will forever remember her; two sisters, Ms. Hazel Ann Barrett of Farmville, NC, Minister Debra Williams (Donald) of Wilson, NC; one foster sister, Janice Williams of Farmville, NC; four brothers: Mr. Melvin Barrett of Wilson, NC, Mr. Clifton Whitehurst of Ayden, NC, Mr. Michael Barrett and Chilli Barrett, both of Farmville, NC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Letha Mae Tyson of Macclesfield, NC; and one brother-in-law, Mr. James Brock of Farmville, NC; one aunt, Mrs. Joyce Jefferson of Plainfield, NJ; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
