Ms. Iris Joyce Taylor of Kinston, N.C. Entered into eternal rest on February 3,2021.
Iris Joyce Taylor was born on January 7, 1958, to the late William H. Taylor Sr. and Mary A. Taylor in Kinston, NC.
“Joyce,” as everyone knew her, received her education at Grainger High School in Kinston, NC. Joyce accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Junior Choir.
Joyce relocated to Maryland in the early 80’s to pursue a career with the government. She worked at The Department of the Navy in Crystal City, VA. and at Catholic Charites in Washington, DC, as an administrative assistant. Joyce decided to move back to her hometown in 2003. She then held positions at two of the local hotels as Night Managers for several years. She also worked as a caregiver for many years.
Joyce loved to laugh and tell the most hilarious short stories. She also loved to sing. Singing was her passion. She was so proud to call her daughter her “Mini Me.”
Iris Joyce Taylor departed this life on February 3, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, William Taylor; her brothers Dennis Ray and William Taylor, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Mary A. Taylor; her daughter, “Mini Me,” as she affectionately called her, Tavia Taylor Dixon (Eugene); two grandchildren, Shanice Dixon and Joell Dixon, Jr.; one brother, Robert Taylor (Avis); and one sister, Mary Janice Taylor; one niece, Octavia McDonald (Briann); one nephew, AmekoTaylor (Shannon); three great-nieces: Lillie, Layla & Ameka; three great-nephews: Mikal, Trevenin & Jyzahn; three aunts: Bernice Hawkins, Mexico Dawson and Rosa Lee Taylor; devoted friends whom she called her sisters: Beverly, Tracy, Gwendolyn, Renee, Quana and Juliette; and a host of cousins and friends.
