Ms. Beatrice Chesson Smith of Belhaven, N.C. entered into eternal rest on March 23,2021.

Beatrice Chesson Smith was born on September 25, 1930, to the late Andrew and Emma Chesson in Belhaven, North Carolina. Beatrice transitioned on March 23, 2021, to be with the Lord in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carlose London in Lakewood, New Jersey, after a length of time battling cancer.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Earl Smith; two sons, Joseph and Oscar Smith; and two daughters, Rickie Gardner and Brenda Smith.

Beatrice received her education in the Beaufort County School System. She graduated with the Class of 1948.

Deacon Beatrice Chesson Smith accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined First Baptist Church in Belhaven, NC. She served as the President of the Choir, Member of the Ladies Friendly Circle and Member of the Democrat Party as a Poll Worker.

She was united in holy matrimony to Deacon Earl Smith on December 27, 1947. Their union was blessed with seven children. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Beatrice was employed by Belhaven Fish & Oyster as a Crab Picker for many years until retirement. She served asCafeteria Staff at Belhaven High School and was also a substitute teacher.

She was a Charter Member of the Beaufort County Unit of the Key Women of America, Inc, a member of Church Women United and a dedicated member with 50+ years of membership in the Belhaven Alumni Club. She also enjoyed cooking and sold Avon for 27 years.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three daughters: Vernalette Barber (Stevie) of Washington, NC, Bernadette London (Carlose) of Lakewood, New Jersey, and Gail Smith of Raleigh, NC; one grandson, Michael Smith (Edith) of Middlesex, NC; two granddaughters, Regina and Keanna; seven grandsons: John Jr., Earl, Patrick, Aaron, Jaylen, Xavier and Andrew; a devoted niece/daughter, Lillian White-Bowen; devoted Godchildren: Earline Ward, Juanita Darden, Darling Burrus, Connie Guy, the Jackson Sisters, Alvin Clark, Lester Bonner, Anita Freeman, Brenda Spencer and Jerome Winfield; two sisters, Rosa Brown of Durham, NC, and Evangelist Magolia Moore of New York, NY; one brother, James Chesson of Hamden, Connecticut; other siblings: Samuel Merrick, Tylus Farrow, Pearl Foskey, Archie Lee, Doris, Charles Augustus, and James Harold; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Chesson of Teachey, NC, and Gloria White of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of Godchildren, nieces, cousins, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
