Mrs. Maibel Sara Haynes of Orlando, FL entered into eternal rest on August 24, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center.
Maibel Sara Hoy Haynes was born on October 8, 1933 to the union of Thomas and Olivia Hoy in Bluefields, The Republic of Nicaragua. In 1938 at the age of 5, Maibel, her parents and three siblings migrated to The Republic of Panama where her father secured work for the Panama Canal.
Maibel was raised in the Church. At a young age, she declared herself a soldier of the Lord. She met and later married Osbert Wilbert Haynes in Silver City, Panama on April 16th, 1954. Together they had four daughters. In 1964 Osbert, Maibel and their four rambunctious daughters moved to the United States of America and settled in Brooklyn, NY.
Upon their arrival in Brooklyn, the family found their spiritual home at Evergreen Baptist Church. Her family only missed Church if they were traveling or if there was a national disaster as she believed there was one place to be on Sunday morning, in Church. After Church, friends, family and neighbors made their way back to the Haynes’ home for chicken, potato salad, rice and peas. For most of us it was the most important event of the week... “Grandma’s Sunday Dinner”.
Her working years were at Continental Bank that is now known as Bank of America where she worked as an International Banker and Translator. When she was not cooking, at church, sewing, traveling, coordinating lunch with her Ladies of Legacy or shopping; Maibel spent time babysitting her grandchildren, nieces and nephews or admiring her great grandchildren. Her life was full of love and joy. Her Home was the entry way for her entire family and friends. The bedrooms and basement at 802 Hegeman Avenue were occupied short-term or long-term at some point by almost everyone in her life. If you were family or a friend, you had a bed to sleep in.
In 2005 Maibel relocated to Orlando, FL with her husband to be closer to two of their daughters. After persistent efforts Maibel found her last spiritual home at Church at the Cross in Orlando, FL. In 2020 she and her daughter Marcia moved to Greenville, NC.
Mae, Amable, Maibel with an “I”, Mom, Grandma, Tia as she was affectionally called by many,
went home to the Lord on August 24th, 2021 and was preceded in death by her husband Osbert Haynes and daughter Marcia Wallace. She leaves to carry on her legacy her daughters, Yolanda Sheppard, husband William Sheppard, Claudia Moodie, husband Donovan Moodie and Patricia Haynes-Yorke. Grandchildren and their spouse’s Victor Saenz, Walter Wright III, Jontue Bryant, Tiffany Allgood- Sheppard, Sean Gac-Guerrier, Teri-Ann Brown, William Donald Sheppard, Kimberly Harris, Paul Yorke and Terrianna Lloyd. Maibel was infinitely wealthy with great grandchildren, her favorite nieces and nephews (you all know who you are), an array of non-biological children, loving brothers and sisters, a host of friends, neighbors and Spiritual Leaders.
At the age of 87 years old Maibel Sara Hoy Haynes exchanged her Old Rugged Cross for a Crown.
