Mr. William “SLEEPY” “BUDDY” Odell Carmon of Greenville, N.C. entered into eternal rest on February 6,2021 surrounded by family.
William “Sleepy/Buddy” Odell Carmon, Sr. was born on September 19, 1936, to Robert Lee and Evangelene Carmon in Greenville, NC. He departed this life on February 6, 2021.
William received his formal education at W. H. Robinson Union High School in Winterville, NC. He furthered his education at Pitt Community College, Winterville, where he received an AssociatesDegree.
William was a faithful member of Warren Chapel UAFWB Church where he served in the following capacities: President of the Youth Choir, President of the Youth Department, Financial Secretary and as a Deacon until his health failed.
“Sleepy/Buddy” Carmon was united in holy matrimony to Annie Juanita Evans on August 1, 1955, in Greenville, NC. Their union was blessed with four sons.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 12, 1955, andwas honorably discharged in September of 1968.
Over the years, he worked for Eveready Battery and Pitt County Schools, but his passion was being an entrepreneur – owning and operating several businesses: Farming, Neighborhood Store Owner, and the proud owner of Carmon’s “You Call We Haul” Firewood Service. He was a jack of all trades and master of many! During his hog farming years, he was known to make some of the best sausage in the county and nobody could cook a hog like “Buddy” Carmon!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Juanita, and sons, Robert and Lorenzo Carmon; his mother, Evangeline Carmon; his father, Robert Lee Carmon; and his brother, James Lewis Carmon.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, William Carmon, Jr.and Peter Carmon (Sharon); one daughter, Veronica Baynes(Andre); 11 grandchildren: Gina, Jason, Tameka, Robin, Octavious, Joshua, Cameron, Morgan, Sage, Malcolm and Tania;his stepmother, Zelma U. Carmon; his siblings: Yvonne Highsmith (Jimmy), Doug Wilder, Faye Brown (Richard), Curtis Wilder, CleeWilder (Christa), Robin Marshall (Bryan), Jimmy Carmon (Clarice), Curtis Moore and Tim Carmon (Betsy); one uncle, James Carmon, who was raised like a brother; one Goddaughter, Monique Barrett Kornegay; a special niece, Gwen Carmon; a special nephew, Jeffrey Carmon (Renee’); a special friend, Linda Baker; a daughter-in-law, Addie Carmon; a son-in-law, Ronald Grice; 2 sisters-in-law Jeanette Carmon and Lois Ennis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
