Mr. Jesse Leon Cooper of Washington, N.C.entered into eternal rest on September 21,2021.
Jesse Leon Cooper (Boogie) was born September 20, 1954, to the union of Vernice W. Cooper and the late Brightie Cooper in Washington, NC. He was delivered at home with the help of midwife Cynthia Price. He departed this life for his heavenly home on September 21, 2021.
Jesse received his formal education in the Beaufort County School System. He attended PS Jones and later graduated from Washington High School.
After graduating he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served two years during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he attended PCC for general education courses. Then he attended BCCC and received a certificate as a Diesel Mechanic. He then moved to Norfolk, VA where he worked at the Naval Shipyard for about ten years and join Gwendolyn Stafford in marriage. He later moved to Charlotte, NC and worked there for about five years; he then returned home to Washington, NC, then to Greenville, NC where he retired.
At the age of sixty-two Jesse devoted his life to Christ. He joined Philippi Church of Christ and began serving on the Usher Board, Welcome Committee, Food Ministry, Sick Ministry, and the Pastor’s Aid Ministry.
He was preceded in death by: father, Brightie Cooper; paternal grandparents: Ruby and Sarah Cooper; maternal grandparents, Otto and Dicie Whitaker.
Left to cherish his memories are: mother, Vernice W. Cooper; children: Deronta Grimes, Kelvin “JJ” Winslow, and Roy Stafford; grandchildren: Prince Grimes, Naomi Billingslea, De’Lisa Whitfield (peanut), and Janiya Grimes; brothers and sisters: Clarence Whitley (Diane) of Chocowinity, NC, Melvin L. Cooper of Washington, NC, Bobby R. Cooper of Charlotte, NC, , Ann E. Cooper of Salisbury, NC, Sharon L. Worthington of Charlotte, NC, Sheila D. Cox of Washington, NC, Velma Peed (Cecil) of Washington, NC, and Tammie J. Beckett (Kenneth) of Stafford, VA; loving aunts, Eunice Fair of Hampton, VA and Neva Cooper of Washington, NC; best friend/brother, Michael Butler (Patricia) of Greenville, NC; devoted friends, Edith Boyd of Greenville, NC and Chief Commander Ralph Bargabos; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
