Mr. James “JD” Dildy Obituary

Mr. James “JD” Dildy of Farmville, N.C. entered into eternal rest on July 17, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

James Henry Dildy aka “JD” was born February 15, 1950, to the union of Reatha Newton Dildy and Arthur Woodrow Dildy in Farmville, N.C.

JD received his formal education at H.B. Sugg High school in Farmville, North Carolina. After graduation JD enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. JD served in Vietnam as a Lance Corporal, his military awards include the Rifle Marksman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal & the Pistol Marksman Badge. Honorably Discharged JD enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1973 – 1975. JD also served the 691st Maintenance Company Farmville National Guard during this service he was deployed to Operation Desert Storm in 1991. As a civilian JD worked at Collins & Aikman, Sterling Radiator, Joyner’s Mortuary, & Horne’s Funeral Home. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Farmville, a member of the HB Sugg Charitable Organization and the American Legion Post 372.

JD was a self-taught musician of the Saxophone, Flute, Guitar, and Piano. JD loved to sing, and everyone loved to hear him sing. JD gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was the pianist at Zion Chapel, Victory Chapel, Glory Chapel, Cedar Grove, and many local gospel groups before his health began to fail him. His group JD & The Souls of Truth traveled to many churches and gospel music programs. Before joining Victory Chapel MB Church where he served as Deacon and pianist, he was a member and pianist at St. Stephen AME Zion Church, Farmville, NC.

Deacon James Henry Dildy departed this life on July 17, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Reatha and Arthur Dildy Sr., Sister: Yvonne Dildy Gaye, Brothers: Dr. Jimmy Dildy, Jack Newton, Ray Dildy and Arthur Dildy Jr., Son: Joseph Ronnell Hardy.

Deacon Dildy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Martha G. Dildy; Children: Melissa Garrick, Timothy Dupree, Kenneth Gorham, Vernita Thompson, Henry Reid, Brenda Reid-Moore, Antron Dildy and Tanisha Dildy; Sister: Virginia Dildy Williams; 65 Grandchildren; a special cousin Linda Jones, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
