Mr. Chappel “Chap” Ellis Topping of Belhaven, N.C. entered into eternal rest on August 16,2021, surrounded by his family.
Chappel Topping was born on April 30, 1932, to the union of Daniel and Zinkey McCullough Topping in Belhaven, NC. Chappel departed this life on August 16, 2021.
Chappel received his formal education in the BeaufortCounty Public School System in Belhaven, NC. After school, Chap moved to Manhattan, NY to make a better life for himself and his family. He stayed for over fifty years until his retirement. A few years after retiring, he decided to move back home to Belhaven, NC to enjoy the country life until his passing.
Chappel Topping accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and was united with St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member.
Chappel Topping was united in holy matrimony to Lillie B. Topping in Belhaven, NC, and their union was blessed with seven children.
Chappel was a manufacturing distributor for several years.
In his leisure, he enjoyed music, dancing, playing spades, sports, and spending time with his family. To know Chap was to love him, he never met any strangers. Chappel was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Chappel was preceded in death by; his wife of sixty-six years, Lillie B. Topping; sons, Anthony “Jake” Artis Topping and Vaughn “Beet” Andre Topping; daughter, Clara Mae Davis; grandson (more like a son), Willie Grant Blount II; and fourteen brothers and sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children: Ranessa Topping Blount of Belhaven, NC, Aaron Topping of Manhattan, NY, Monte Washington of Pascagoula, MS, and Terry Griffin of Houston, TX; many loving grandchildren; and a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
