Ms. Mamie Elizabeth Bailey, 97, of Washington, NC, passed away on Thursday , January 25, 2024, in Washington, NC.

Mamie Elizabeth St. Clair Bailey was born June 29, 1926, to the union of Cornelius Sr. and Mammie St. Clair in Chocowinity, NC.

Mamie received her formal education at the Washington Colored School in Washington, NC. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with St. James CME Church. As a faithful member, Mamie diligently served in many areas of the church to include: the Stewardess board, Pastor’s Aide, a member of the choir, the building committee, a Sunday School Teacher, the Missionary Society and Lay Ministry.

Mamie Elizabeth St. Clair was united in holy matrimony to Walter Thomas Bailey Sr., in the year of 1943 in Washington, NC. Their union was blessed with four children.

She was employed by Beaufort County Nursing Home as a Nursing Assistant until she retired. In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her Bible, shopping, and going out to eat at her favorite restaurant.

Mamie Elizabeth St. Clair Bailey departed this life on January 25, 2024. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Walter T. Bailey, Sr.; two sons, Walter T. Bailey, Jr. and Melvin Earl Bailey; grandson, Anothony Maurice “Moe” Bailey; siblings, Cornelius Jr., Major St. Clair, and Mary Laws.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Ernest Bailey (Cassandra) and Carl Bailey (Tyree); grandchildren, Marlon Bailey (Roschell), Carlos Bailey (Tylasha), Jermel Peele (Latoya), Johnathon Bailey (Alexis), and Brianna Bailey; six great grandchildren, Chaneyra, Marlon Jr., Jayeeon, Chrystian, Jawon, and Arielle; one great-great granddaughter, Wynter Reese Bailey; devoted daughter-in-law, Edna Bailey; two devoted nieces, Diane Laws and Sharon Laws-Tiller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
