Ms. Joyce Johnson of Washington, N.C. entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
Sister Joyce Marie Johnson, affectionally known as “Baby Joyce” by her siblings, born January 7,1945 to the late Forrest and Mary Frances Crandall. On August 19, 2022, she peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family.
Joyce was very sociable and full of life, she loved to dance and enjoyed music of the 50’s thru the 70’s era. She attended the Beaufort County Schools alongside of her siblings, however, at the tender age of 17, Joyce decided she needed a change and moved to New York City with her eldest brother William.
After getting settled and finding work at a shoe department store, she met this tall chocolate Army man named Elbert Lorenzo Johnson. After some courtship they wedded on June 12,1971 and three years later, she birthed her daughter, Monique. Along with being the loving mother she was a nurse and found employment at Brooklyn Eye & Ear Hospital for several years and later moved to
Far Rockaway Queens and transferred to Peninsula Hospital until her retirement in 1989. Soon after the birth of her granddaughter Madisyn “her Pumpkin” Joyce moved back to North Carolina in 2012, she rededicated her life to Christ at Cornerstone Outreach Ministries under leadership of Pastor Dennis Davis. Joyce always had a word of God and a prayer for her family. Joyce was also a member of the Belhaven Alumni along with her sister Mae.
Joyce leaves cherished her memories, daughter Monique Johnson; granddaughter: Madisyn Johnson; of Maryland; three sisters: Mary Crandall, Rena Spearman, and Faye Crandall, all of Washington, NC; three brothers: William Crandall (Arizona) of Georgia, Nelson Crandall, and Edward Crandall all of Washington, NC; seventeen nieces & nephews; forty-two great nieces & nephews; fifty-five great great nieces & nephews and a host of cousins and special friends.
