John married his sweetheart Janice Lee Boyd Johnson and was united in holy matrimony on January 28, 1979. Their union was blessed with five children.
John Ed Johnson departed this life on January 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by: Parents: James Johnson Jr. and Hattie Mann Johnson; and Daughter: Tomekia Michelle Johnson; Bobby Saunders, Jessie Lovick, Andrew Lovick, and James Johnson Jr. (Buck).
