Jean Hardy Hartley was born on April 7, 1931 to the Union of Lillian Wooten and Emor Hardy in Greenville, NC. Jean Hardy Hartley received her formal education at C.M. Eppes High School in Greenville, NC, she then furthered her education in Nursing in Greenville, NC.
Jean Hardy Hartley accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and united with Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist under the late B.B. Felder.
Jean Hardy Hartley was united in holy matrimony with the late William Hartley Sr. in Greenville, NC and their union was blessed with 5 children. She was employed by Imperial Tobacco as a Line Employee until retirement. In her leisure she enjoyed bowling, watching Soap Operas, Martial Art Movies, Carolina Basketball, Dallas Cowboy Football, cooking, and she loved to dance!
Jean was a member of the C.M. Eppes Alumni Club.
Jean was a phenomenal, dedicated, committed, and loving mother to her children as well as others in the community and others she would come across. She has impacted multiple generations and have always opened her home to others! She adored her grandchildren, great children, and great great grand children.
Jean Hardy Hartley departed this life on November 27, 2023. She was preceded in death by William James Hartley Sr (husband), Lillian Wooten (Mother), Emor Hardy (Father), Demetrius Staton (Grandson), Enora Grimes (Mother-in-Law), and Margie Duffie (Sister-in-Law).
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sandra Jenkins (William) of Greenville North Carolina, sons William Hartley (Hester) of Maryland, Lawrence Hartley of Greenville, North Carolina, Timothy Hartley of Greenville, North Carolina, and youngest daughter Lillian Hartley-Moye (Toronto) also of Greenville, North Carolina. Grandchildren Denise Clifton (James) of Greenville, NC, Anthony Hartley (Camille) of Greenville, NC, Brian Hartley of Greenville, North Carolina, Marcus Hartley of Maryland, Phillip Hartley of Maryland, Kandace Alston (De’Juan) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Shaquita Jenkins of Greenville, North Carolina, William Jenkins Jr of Greenville, North Carolina, Montrell Jenkins of Greenville, North Carolina, Killian Moye (Brittany) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Keturah Hartley of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Danielle Chavis of Greenville, North Carolina. Sister in Laws Doris Spellman and Shirley Greene. 45 great and great great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews, special cousin Joyce Wiggins, Ms. Herriann and family and friends.
