Herlis Marshall Obituary

Mr. Herlis Marshall of Kinston, N.C. entered into eternal rest on October 6, 2022.

Herlis Marshall was the fourth of six children. He was born October 23, 1948, in Lenoir County to Raymond and Eunice G. Marshall Armstrong He transitioned from this life on October 7, 2022, in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He attended Gethsemane SDA Church on East Street at an early age along with his mother and siblings.

After graduating from Adkin High School in 1967, he joined the United States Army on September 12, 1967, and served until June 14, 1970, receiving an honorable discharge.

Herlis was multi-talented. He worked for Channel 9 television station as a news anchor and reporter. He was also a radio announcer here in Kinston. He later decided to travel and explore his talents. He did acting in California; was on a billboard in Chicago advertising Kool cigarettes; did brick masonry and modeling. He was an artist, a DJ, a numerologist, a singer who recorded four CDs. He was also the author of two books. 

Herlis had a love for painting houses. He painted many houses here in Kinston as well as in the Charlotte area.

Herlis was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Eunice Marshall Armstrong; his stepfather, Huntley Armstrong; and two siblings, Milton “Junior” Marshall and Pat Tucker.

He leaves to cherish his memory, four brothers: Freddie Maurice (Deborah) Marshall of Kinston, NC, Raymond Marshall, Jr., Anthony (Gail) Marshall and Amos Tucker, all of Statesville, NC; nine sisters: Eleanor (Robert) Davis of Mooresville, NC, Leytrecia Marshall and Gina (Clifton) Jones, all of Kinston, NC, Beverly Ann Culler of Troutman, NC, Eugenia Faye Marshall and Mabel (Dwight) Houston, all of Charlotte, Sylvia Marshall and Sheila Marshall, both of Troutman, NC, and Carol Guest of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Delores (Pendleton) Thornton of Washington, DC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
