Mr. Donnie R. Windley of Belhaven, N.C. entered into eternal rest on February 7, 2023.

Donnie Redell Windley was born on April 10, 1961 in Pungo District Hospital of Belhaven, North Carolina to Gloria Swanson Smith and the late Roosevelt Windley, Jr.
Donnie was a believer of Christ at an early age. He was a member of Holly Grove Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. Due to his illness, he Faithfully attended services online including Thursday night Bible Study. Every morning Donnie would wake up and say, “Lord I thank you and I am healed in Jesus name”.
Donnie was educated in the Beaufort County School System and attended Belhaven Elementary School, John A. Wilkinson Junior High, and John A. Wilkinson High School where he graduated in the Class of 1979. Donnie also completed the LPN Program at Beaufort County Community College.
In 1980, Donnie joined the United States Navy and was an Air Traffic Controller on the USS Donald B. Beary and was honorably discharged in 1985. Upon returning home Donnie was employed with Pungo District Hospital as an LPN within the Vent Respiratory Unit, and at the Craven County Medical Center. Recently he was a Correctional Officer at the Hyde County Correctional Facility until his health declined.
Donnie was known as a lover of sports with his favorite NFL team being the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also played football while he attended John A. Wilkinson High School. He loved wrestling, basketball, fishing, strawberry cheesecake, vanilla ice cream, sweet potato fluff and fruit punch.
Donnie was preceded in death by: his father, Roosevelt Windley, Jr.; grandparents, Roosevelt Windley, Sr., Helen Corprew Windley, James Jones, Sr., Myrtle Jones, and Edna Jordan; one nephew and niece, Shawn Poole and Keisha Hankins; one aunt, Ruby Jordan, uncles, Elmer Windley, Willie Windley, James Jones, Jr., William Jordan, Jr., and Hirram Jones.
Tuesday, February 7, 2023, Donnie scored his final touchdown on earth and leaves to cherish his memories: one son, DuJuan Murray; his mother, Gloria Windley, siblings, Clyde Windley (Debra), Jeffrey Windley, Doreatha Windley Williams, Marvin Hankins, Vanessa Hankins, and Helen Waters Poole; aunts, Linda Moore, Leatha Mae Windley, Sharon Jones, and Nora Jones; uncles, John Jordan, Theodore Jones, Windell Moore, and Walter Jordan; nieces and nephews, Kieran, Terrence, Bruce, Ronnie, Devin, Shantajah, Caden, Ethan, Christopher, Debbie, Nicolas, Delores, Marvin, Jr. Danny, Nichole, Denise, Ethan, and Devin; brothers in kind, Henry Taylor, Quentin Carr, and Japhonza Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends.
