Mr. Derrick Murray, 53, of Washington, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at his residence in Washington, NC.

The Life and Legacy of Derrick Murray

Derrick Antoine Murray, was born on March 21, 1971, to Faye Crandall-Brown and the late Oliver Murray Jr. in Brooklyn, New York. He was known to his family as Derby, a nickname given to him by his cousin Herb. Derrick attended schools both in New York City and in North Carolina, where he graduated from Street Academy High School of Brooklyn, New York in 1989. As time went by he met Kindalyn Williams and formed a relationship in 1998, during their time together they had two beautiful daughters, Jazmere and Tayla.

 He was employed with Pitney Bowes from 1999 until 2005 as a mail sorting machine operator. Later that year of 2005 he moved back to North Carolina. In 2007, Derrick met Sierra Beale and two years later welcomed their son Darius, moved to Elizabeth City and was united in holy matrimony in July of 2010. He then met Alvina Johnson and soon welcomed his daughter, Ayanna. Derrick cared deeply for his children. He also shared a special bond with his sister Nicole, (his Cole-Baby).

In his leisure, Derrick loved to read, especially The National Geographics, encyclopedias and watching the Discovery channel faithfully. He would cut up dancing and crack jokes and had a laugh that would make anyone laugh.God called our beloved Derrick home peacefully on February 23, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his father Oliver Murray Jr. and brother Nathaniel Murray.

Derrick leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Sierra Murray; children, Jazmere, Tayla, Darius, and Ayanna Murray; loving and supportive mother, Faye Crandall-Brown (Step-Father James); step-mother, Pastor Everette Murray; sister Nicole Brown-Sass(Dexter); sister, Mary Murray-Raleigh, NC; brother Nathan Murray; step-brothers, Jocquel Brown and James London; sister-in-kind, Torri Hudson; brothers-in-kind, Herb Selby and  Daniel Selby; one aunt, Mary Bullock; one uncle Edward Crandall; niece, Imani Sass; god-daughter, Tanasia Hudson and a host of cousin and friends.
