I will trust in the Lord, I will trust in the Lord, until I die. Death is not a tragedy, for those who have faith. For they are passing a world, filled with struggles, sin, and disappointment. He has a finer and much better place, where peace, love, and joy abide. In the twinkling of an eye Deacon Marcell has passed through the veil called “Death” unto the life, which is everlasting.
Deacon Marcell Crawford was born on September 1, 1927, in Beaufort County to the union of the late Leroy and MaleneyCrawford. He departed this life on August 30, 2021.
Deacon Marcell Crawford received his education from Chocowinity Colored School. He attended adult education. Later after retirement he enrolled at BCC small engine class and graduated with a certification in Lawn Mower repairs. He ran a repair shop at his home.
At an early age he joined Warren Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Chocowinity under the leadership of the late Rev. Ed Bryant and the late Bishop Roger Hook. He was very active on the Deacon Board, Sunday school, Bible study, and Prayer meetings.
In April of 2006 Deacon Marcell Crawford was given the certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his leadership, dedication, and his untiring service from Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Churches. Later he continued under the leadership of Pastor Michael Barnes.
Deacon Marcell Crawford retired from Flanders Filter in Washington, NC after thirty years of service.
Deacon Marcell Crawford was united in Holy matrimony to Sudie L. Moore who preceded him in death. In later years he married Ella Joyce Gaskins.
He was preceded in death by: wife, Sudie L. Moore; brothers, Cleonis Crawford and Leroy Crawford, Jr.; sons, Bobby Lee Keys, Issea Lee Crawford; and three great grandchildren.
Sorrowfully mourning his death, but left to cherish his memories; children: Annie Williams of Chocowinity, NC, Shirley Crawford of Grimesland, NC, Mary (Walter) Shepard, and Nancy Crawford both of Greenville, NC, Betty (Alton) Hodges of Olympia Washington State, Clyde Keyes of Greenville, NC; one daughter-in-law, Jackie Crawford of Florida; sister, Inez Peed of Chocowinity, NC; brother, Milton (Mary) Crawford of Chocowinity, NC; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-nine great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; a long host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, family, and friends.
