Deacon Guy Lester Smith

Mr. Guy Lester Smith of Washington, N.C. entered into eternal rest on December 3,2021 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Guy Lester Smith Jr. was born February 16, 1942, in Beaufort County to Katherine Wiggins Smith & Guy Lester Smith Sr. He received his formal education in Beaufort County.

Guy Lester’s mom at an early age use to take him to church along with the family. At the age of 39, he joined Sutton Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. where he served as head Deacon & remained faithful until his demise.

He was married to Dorothy Jean Hyman. After her death, Guy later married Hazel Topping who also passed.

Guy Lester was employed by Minges Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company for approximately 20 years, and then retired. Soon after with his best friend, Cornelius Paige, they started S&P Landscaping in the Spring of 2000.  

Guy Lester loved to ride his bicycle around town to stay fit. Let’s not forget he enjoyed worshipping, singing, and beating the cymbals making a joyful noise unto the Lord!

Guy Lester Smith separated this life on December 3, 2021. He was preceded in death by both wives Dorothy and Hazel and his parents, Guy Lester Smith Sr. and Katherine Smith; his daughter Kathleen Denise Smith; 2 sisters, Kathleen Smith Ward and Marjorie Marie Smith Pope, brother-in-law Thurman James Pope Sr.;Mother-in-law, Roberta Hyman Stanley, 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren. 

Deacon Smith leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters Jean Carter, & Carolyn Jean Smith Pope (Earl); 2 stepdaughters, Patricia Williams, & Krystal Ward both of Washington, NC; 1 step-son Lonnie Earl Hyman of New Bern, NC. 21grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; Sisters, Jessie Lee Little and Nell Gray White (Linwood) all of Washington, NC; 1 Aunt Pearl Smith Keyes and 1 Uncle Richard Smith (Hattie); 1 God-Daughter Nichole Paige, Winterville, NC.  A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Relatives, Friends, and A Devoted Church Family.
