Ada Chapman Obituary

Ms. Ada V. Chapman of Winterville, N.C. entered into eternal rest on March 15, 2023.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

II Timothy 4:6-7

Mother Ada Vera Carmon Chapman peacefully departed this earthly life on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.  Ada was born in Pitt County to the late Henry Carmon and Annie Bell Blount Carmon on May 6, 1926.

Ada initially received her formal education from Winterville School and later transitioned to Warren Chapel School both of Pitt County.  After her schooling, she relocated to New York and began her adult life as a Homemaker.  Years later, she returned home to North Carolina continuing as a Homemaker and sometime later she began working on the farm.

Ada enjoyed going to church and serving the Lord whole heartily.  She loved to read God’s Holy Word.  At an early age, Ada accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  She was a faithful member of Warren Chapel FWB Church until her health declined.  At Warren Chapel, she served as a Stewardess, on the Mother Board, Usher Board, sung in the Senior Choir and the Gospel Chorus.

Ada was loved by many.  Her nurturing spirit provided her the opportunity to shine as a mother figure to many nieces and nephews as her doors were always opened.   Anyone who was in Ada’s presence always experienced her genuine love.  They also knew that she loved some collard greens with grease, pigtails, “iced potatoes” and her cold Pepsi Cola.  She could lead you in song and change the lyrics to what she thought was right.  When she was done singing or having a general conversation, she would end it with, “now name that tune baby”.

Ada was preceded in death by her siblings Charlie Henry Carmon, Emma Coggins, Josephine Carmon, Herman Blount, Jimmy Carmon, Annie Simpson, Jennie West and daughter Sheila Coggins.

Ada leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Leon Coggins (Latoya) and Christopher Coggins (LaChele); one sister, Mother Bonnie Mae Green, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
